The Evidence Based Practice Center of Oklahoma: a collaborating center of the Joanna Briggs Institute, University of Oklahoma, United States of America
JBIO (November 2004):We are excited to be one of three Centers in the United States and one of four in North America. Dr. Carole A. Kenner, Center Director and Dr. Renee Leasure, Deputy Director head the Joanna Briggs Evidence Based Practice Institute of Oklahoma (JBIO) which represents a partnership between three institutions, University of Oklahoma College of Nursing, Integris Health Center and the Veterans Administration Medical Center, who work to positively influence health care throughout the state of Oklahoma as well as the country. The Oklahoma City Veterans Administration Medical Center provides primary, secondary, and tertiary care for Oklahoma and two counties in the state of Texas. The VA Medical Center serves as a tertiary referral center for cardiac, dialysis, and psychiatric patients. Integris Health is the state's largest Oklahoma-owned health system. Integris Health, which operates a system of 13 hospitals throughout the state, is recognized as a Regional Transplant, Burn, and Neonatal Critical Care center. The University of Oklahoma College of Nursing is one of four in the United States that currently has all seven (7) Health Science Colleges on the same campus. This enables us to quickly assemble teams to address Interdisciplinary issues. We are going to focus on six (6) key areas: Palliative Care/End of Life Issues, Systems Management, Teaching/Learning, Primary Care Child Bearing Family and Symptom Management. The first topics identified for priority review are: (1) The identification of strategies promoting adherence to exercise, diet, and medication programs; (2) Interventions to minimize the severity of post-partum depression; (3) Review of evidence supporting the use of mobile computing devices and primary disease management and finally; (4) interventions to promote disease self management in persons with low health literacy. Our first year will focus on getting two groups going to narrow the questions to be examined. These questions will be used as a basis for answering community health concerns. |
