The establishment of this institute followed the recognition by the government of the need to generate scientific data and information required in the development of better methods and techniques for enhancing disease management, prevention and control in the country. On the other hand, IHRDC (founded in 1957) is a non-for profit, district based health research and resource Centre. Evidence Synthesis Group Members: Our group has expertise in Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Qualitative research. Dr Rugola Mtandu Mrs. D. Mwaseba Mr. F. Levira Group’s interest Research on HIV care and treatment is a dynamic process as evidenced by the discovery of new drugs and results of new ARV combinations from clinical trials. On the other hand, resistance to established ARVs is considerable and long term ARV side effects are increasingly acknowledged. As a result, there is and there will be enormous amount of HIV care and treatment publications that might be difficult for health care workers and policy makers to synthesize and eventually utilise. Our group will therefore conduct systematic reviews in the area of comprehensive HIV care and treatment with special emphasis on delivery of good quality of care and overall improvement in the quality of life. In the future we would also like to expand our horizon to review interventions aimed at other chronic illnesses such as Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus; diagnostics evaluation and health programs evaluation.
