
SUMARI is a developing software package designed to assist health and other researchers and practitioners to conduct systematic reviews with evidence of Feasibility, Appropriateness, Meaningfulness and Effectiveness and to conduct economic evaluations of activities and interventions. The package consists of five modules.

JBI-CReMS is designed for researchers conducting systematic reviews that follow the standard approach developed by the Cochrane Collaboration (but it cannot be used as an alternative to RevMan to conduct Cochrane reviews) and for researchers who wish to incorporate other forms of evidence/data through the use of other SUMARI modules. The JBI-CReMS module is web based and, when downloaded on the users server, can be accessed on the web by those who have registered. It can be used as a stand-alone program to manage the systematic review process or in conjunction with other SUMARI modules.
Each of the other SUMARI modules are also web-based and are designed to interface with JBI-CReMS and all other modules. They can also be used as stand-alone programs by reviewers who wish to utilise the functions of a specific module.
The total package is designed so that each module interacts with the others and a reviewer can, at the point in the review when critical appraisal, data extraction and data synthesis/meta-analysis is reached, select a pathway to manage RCT data, non-RCT quantitative data, qualitative data, textual data from opinion papers or reports or economic data. In a single focus review (for example, a review of effectiveness would follow the RCT data pathway using the JBI-MAStARI module only and extract and analyse only results from RCTs). A review with more than one foci can select any number of pathways (for example, a review of effectiveness and feasibility may enter data from action research and evaluative studies into the JBI-QARI pathway and data from reports of learned bodies into the JBI-NOTARI pathway, as well as RCT results).
The text and data entered into the first part of JBI-CReMS and in the evidence review and pooling module(s) are automatically transferred to the second part of JBI-CReMS to create a final report, as the diagram below shows.

The JBI-QARI software is designed to manage, appraise, extract and synthesize qualitative data as part of a systematic review of evidence. JBI-QARI has been designed as a web-based database and incorporates a critical appraisal scale; data extraction forms; and a data synthesis function. The software was developed by a group of Australian academics and internationally peer reviewed.

The JBI-MAStARI software is designed to manage, appraise, extract and analyse quantitative data as part of a systematic review of evidence. JBI-MAStARI has been designed as a web-based database and incorporates a critical appraisal scale; data extraction forms; and a data analysis function (built with JBI-CReMS).

The JBI-ACTUARI software is designed to manage, appraise, extract and analyse economic data as part of a systematic review of evidence. JBI-ACTUARI has been designed as a web-based database and incorporates a critical appraisal scale; data extraction forms; and a data analysis function.

The JBI-NOTARI software is designed to manage, appraise, extract and synthesize data as part of a systematic review of evidence arising out of expert opinion texts and of reports. JBI-NOTARI has been designed as a web-based database and incorporates a critical appraisal scale; data extraction forms; and a data synthesis function.
